- What is The Codex Alimentarius?
There is the Official Spin at Main Page
which I must admit is generally nothing to be afraid of. In fact as a creation of the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) with the World Health Organization (WHO) it is designed as a food safety standard which comprises food standards for 237 commodities, limits for 3,274 pesticide residues, guidelines for 25 contaminants and has evaluated 1,005 food additives. From pg 11 of their publication titled "Understanding the Codex Alimentarius" we get this...'The eleventh session of the Conference of FAO in 1962 and the Sixteenth World Health Assembly in 1963 both passed resolutions to establish the Codex Alimentarius Commission. The two bodies also adopted the Statutes and Rules of Procedure for the Commission.
So far this appears pretty innocent.
